Weekly Reflection #2: 3D Printing Pens

3D printing technology has been around for many years now and is quickly becoming more

accessible to the average consumer. For most of it's life span, 3D printing technology has been expensive, inefficient, and out of reach for most people. Now companies have found a way shrink the 3D printing process into a pen and allow you to create three dimensional objects right in front of your eyes. These pens can be picked up from anywhere around $10 all the way up to around $175. The pens use ABS plastic filament sticks to create the objects. The material is heated up inside the pen and comes out of the tip of the pen as a sort of 3D ink. Packs of filament sticks will run you anywhere from about $1 up to about $20, depending on the color, amount, and quality of the material. The pens make great use of simple designs and ergonomic features, making them

comfortable for all age ranges to use. They also make for great gifts given their low price and can also be an interesting integration to both art and technology classrooms for all grade levels. Overall the 3D Printing Pen is a large advancement in the 3D printing world and has given people of all ages the mazing opportunity to create something right in front of their eyes.
